Job Description

The Legal Intern will support the ADG Legal team in regulatory research, stakeholder engagements, and enforcement efforts. The intern will work in the areas of gaming law, administrative rulemaking and legal compliance.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Duties

  • Legislative and Statutory Research: 1. Conduct research on novel gaming legislation across the county and analyze its relevance to Arizona gaming law.; 2. Review current Arizona statutes and regulations to identify areas for potential improvement; 3. Provide written summaries and recommendations on legal trends and regulatory updates.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Rulemaking Support: 1. Assist in stakeholder meetings related to ongoing rulemaking projects; 2/ Research and draft responses to public comments and stakeholder concerns regarding regulatory changes; 3. Prepare briefing materials and legal memoranda for rulemaking discussions.
  • Legal Enforcement & Compliance: 1. Research illegal gaming operators and assist with investigations into unlicensed activities; 2. Draft cease and desist letters for review by the legal team; 3. Support the legal team in developing strategies for regulatory enforcement and compliance monitoring.
  • General Legal Support: 1. Assist with additional legal tasks based on Department needs, including contract review, administrative hearing preparation, and internal policy drafting; 2. Conduct ad hoc legal research on various gaming related issues; 3. Collaborate with department legal team on special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Salary
  • $15.15
Qualifications

  • Must have a basic understanding of contract, constitutional law, administrative law, criminal law, and criminal procedure.
  • Must be familiar with the Arizona Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to use legal research sites such as Westlaw.
  • Must be able to come into the office as needed and must be capable of working on assigned tasks independently from home.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Legal interns must be second or third year law students at an ABA accredited law school.
