POSITION SUMMARY:

The Litigation Analyst provides risk leadership, expertise, and service to support the management of the overall operation, tactics and strategy of clinical risk management and patient safety.  This position has the responsibility to coordinate the review of reported risk events. Assists in ongoing analysis, development and implementation of methods and systems to improve overall safety, efficiency and effectiveness of clinical risk and patient safety management services and functions.

The analyst will bring a solid background in healthcare law, medical malpractice, or healthcare risk management, and will play a vital role in supporting efforts to mitigate legal risk while promoting patient safety and regulatory compliance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education: Associate’s degree in a related field required.  Bachelor’s degree in health-related field preferred.

Required length of experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an acute care setting or three (3) years experience as a paralegal in a healthcare, litigation, or insurance setting required. Strong written and oral communication skills.  Computer literacy.  Presentation and research skills.  Ability to influence change without direct authority.

Certification in one of the following preferred:

  • Paralegal certification from an accredited institution
  • Certified Professional Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) 
  • Certified Professional Patient Safety (CPPS) 
  • Certified Professional Health Care Quality (CPHQ) 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Risk Management and Legal team in managing and reviewing clinical incidents, adverse events, and patient safety events that may result in claims or litigation.
  • Analyze and summarize medical records, incident reports, and clinical documentation to identify potential legal exposure.
  • Assist in responding to subpoenas, discovery requests, and medical record requests related to litigation or regulatory inquiries.
  • Coordinate with defense counsel, insurers, and third-party administrators on active claims and litigation matters.
  • Maintain and update claims databases and documentation related to legal and risk management activities.
  • Prepare internal litigation summaries and case timelines for executive leadership or legal review.
  • Assist in conducting internal investigations, interviews, and root cause analyses following adverse events.
  • Support compliance with regulatory reporting requirements (e.g., state/federal health departments, DNV).
  • Collaborate with clinical teams, quality improvement, and compliance departments to support risk mitigation strategies.
