Immigration Paralegal
Location: Houston
Status: Contract
Jackson Walker, the largest law firm in Texas, has an exciting contract opportunity for an Immigration Paralegal in our Houston office. The responsibilities of this role include working closely with attorneys in the preparation and filing of immigration. An Immigration Paralegal is responsible for working closely with attorneys in the representation of business and individuals in various immigration matters. Candidates should have a comprehensive knowledge of the immigration process, mastery of multiple case types, and comfortable with client interaction.
DETAILS:
- Required to work 40 hours per week.
- Pay rate: $35/hour
- Position is not eligible for overtime pay, benefits, or sick leave.
- Expected duration of the position is twelve (12) months, possibly longer depending on work/performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing nonimmigrant petitions/applications and support letters for attorney review in a timely manner.
- Successfully managing multiple matters that are in various stages of preparation.
- Ability to review documents/information to assist attorney(s) in issue-spotting as well as monitoring all matters filed and pending to escalate when irregularities occur.
- Utilizing internal data management technology to maintain current records and provide regular reporting for client and internal use.
- Communicating clearly and concisely either in writing or verbally with clients, internal parties, or government agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in preparing nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions/applications.
- Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to execute and work well with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Innovative and independent thinking, taking initiative to solve problems.
- Ability to meet deadline and goals.
- Working proficiency with Word, Outlook, and a document management system.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- High school diploma or GED; paralegal certification required.
- Substantial equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree or paralegal certification.
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years' U.S. business immigration experience, preferably in a law firm setting.
- Investor visa experience is preferred, but not required.
Working Conditions:
- Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise and temperature.
