This could be your chance to practice pioneering law for an innovative global tech company! eBay is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative attorney to join the legal team supporting our thriving and Global Trade and Logistics organization. You will be responsible for providing legal and regulatory advice on global customs requirements to facilitate cross border trade for the eBay community to make it easy for even a novice to engage in global trade. This is a phenomenal opportunity to help enable new logistics operations around the world! 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and advise on the design, development, and roll out of new business models, products, and features throughout the entire product development lifecycle, with an eye towards global scalability

  • Advise the Global Logistics team on compliance with global customs authorities, informing business partners of new developments or changes in requirements and advise on the development of technology to assist eBay users in facilitating global trade

  • Translate complex customs regulations and rulings into clear requirements for business, compliance, product and engineering teams

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Tax, Sanctions Compliance, Risk, Finance/Treasury, Accounting, Marketing, Privacy, Information Security, Internal Audit, and Government Relations

  • Anticipate regulatory changes and proactively advise leadership about how eBay should navigate through such changes

  • Manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure

  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements that support the Global Logistics team in customs related initiatives

Minimum Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar

  • 8+ years providing customs related advice to logistics organizations, carriers, manufacturers, retailers, internet or technology companies or government agencies

  • Experience advising on US and global customs regulations and customs rulings

  • Deep understanding of customs clearance processes

  • Experience providing strategic and pragmatic regulatory advice to business and compliance teams

  • Technical understanding of the global customs ecosystem, especially as relevant to a global e-commerce company

  • Experience working cross-functionally and using critical thinking to achieve business objectives

  • Ability to manage and deliver across a number of top-priority projects

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills  

  • Flexible and agile problem solver, with the ability to tolerate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment where change is happening every day

  • Applicants with previous experience working as a customs broker or with a brokerage or experience working directly with or for US Customs and Border Protection are highly encouraged to apply

  • Good sense of humor and team spirit

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington DC, or New York is expected in the range below.

$190,000 - $220,000

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). The applicable base pay range for this position is dependent on work location. The base pay range in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City Metro and Seattle Metro is expected in the range below:

$174,400 - $232,800

The base pay range for all other U.S. work locations is expected in the range below: 

$132,000 - $212,000

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
