Job Description

As a Corporate Legal intern you will assist in establishing and maintaining strategies to meet organizational objectives. Our interns work with the attorneys and Corporate Legal staff to resolve ongoing issues in a business setting. You will perform a wide variety of legal assignments which may include: legal research, preparing written memoranda, analyzing legislation and regulations affecting the insurance industry and reviewing contracts. You will develop both oral and written communication skills.

Our summer student internship is a 10 to 14 week program that starts in mid to late May and ends in August. During your internship, you’ll work on impactful projects that make a difference at our company, with our customers, and in our communities. You’ll also gain exposure to different areas of our business and have numerous opportunities for networking and coaching.

Interns may be eligible for a one-time hiring bonus to assist with housing costs depending upon proximity to an AmFam Group office. 

Compensation Min: $27.00
Compensation Max: $35.00

Responsibilities 

  • Work closely with the attorneys in the office and be responsible for research and written assignments, covering a broad range of substantive legal issues.

  • Participate in and support projects within the Corporate Legal Division. 

  • Attend meetings and negotiations with internal business clients and third party service providers and other counter-parties.

  • Assist attorneys in providing advice and support enabling internal business clients to achieve corporate objectives.

  • Develop an understanding of our business, corporate culture and structure to support your work. 

  • Contribute creative ideas and strategic approaches in response to changing situations. 

Requirements

  • Candidates must be a student in good standing at an ABA Accredited Law School.

  • Must submit cover letter and resume with application.

  • Must be either a first or second year law student.

  • Effective organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong research skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Must be in student status at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship. Graduating August 2026 or later.

Work Location

This role may be considered for a Full-Time in Office work arrangement. In this primarily office-based role, you will be expected to spend at least 80% of your time (4+ days per week) working from the office. Candidates should reside within approximately 50 miles of Madison, WI 53783.
