Under direct supervision, is responsible for general secretarial duties; prepares basic reports; maintains computerized files; and performs related duties as required. This position is not covered under Civil Service
Duties and Responsibilities:
Types moderately complex letters and memos utilizing a personal computer, typewriter and/or word processor
Maintains statistics and develops reports
Enters and updates data in a personal computer or CRT utilizing spreadsheet or database applications
Answers telephone, routes calls and takes messages utilizing some discretion
Develops and maintains files
Accesses and files information
Opens and distributes mail
Copies information and distributes to appropriate location
Responds to general questions and complaints regarding department or work
May order and maintain supplies
Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate; and two (2) years general office experience including at least one (1) year secretarial experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Transcribes complex information utilizing Dictaphone
Good knowledge of office procedures.
Knowledge of English spelling, grammar and punctuation; knowledge of word processing, database or spreadsheet software packages
Skill in operating a personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment. (Requirement); skill to type 45 wpm with no more than 7 errors
Ability to accurately enter data and file information; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to transcribe machine dictation; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the general public
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar Criminal District Attorney's Office
Must clear a pre-employment physical
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Constantly working in indoor conditions
Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
Occasionally moves about the office
Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
Positions self to perform essential functions
Must be able to remain in a stationary position
