Role Overview


Stoel Rives LLP is seeking an entry level associate for our Intellectual Property & Technology Litigation team within the Technology & Intellectual Property practice group. This associate can work in either our Portland, OR, or Seattle, WA office.

We are looking for academically strong 3L JD students who have a deep interest in IP litigation and want to practice in Portland or Seattle starting in the fall of 2026:

  • Study of or experience with intellectual property litigation, commercial litigation, IP licensing, and/or copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets;
  • Familiarity with patent prosecution process, technology transactions, IP commercial agreements, and unfair competition issues;
  • Experience prior to or during law school that might include: professional work experience, participation in IP or tech law school organizations, law review, mock trial, or moot court;
  • Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, responsiveness, initiative, and perseverance, and a commitment to client service and team success;
  • A record of strong academic achievement, and excellent legal analysis and writing skills;
  • JD from an accredited law school before July 2026, along with the intent and eligibility to sit for the Oregon or Washington state bar exam in February or July 2026;
  • Those who are eligible to sit for, or registered with the Patent Bar, are encouraged to apply, but such eligibility is not required.

How You Will Live Life Well at Stoel Rives: Compensation, Benefits, and More!

This position can sit in our Portland or Seattle offices, and the salary range is based on market location. The pay expectations for this position: in Portland $180,000 and in Seattle $205,000, however the base compensation presented to a candidate may vary based on skills and overall experience.
