How do we work?
As our Assistant General Counsel you will be reporting to General Counsel. You will be responsible for leading the legal support of our operating companies in different entities. This role requires working autonomously as well as part of a collegiate and supportive international and local cross-functional Legal Team supporting a global retail foreign exchange and derivative broker.
We work in a hybrid model - we'd love to meet you in the office from time to time.
In this role, you will:
Advise on regulatory strategy, including horizon-scanning, impact assessments, and communicating applicable regulatory changes.
Manage day-to-day legal matters for US and Canadian operations, including global regulatory licensing.
Provide commercial, solutions-focused regulatory advice to senior executives (e.g., for product launches/development, geographic expansion).
Anticipate, identify, and escalate legal issues.
Educate and train internal stakeholders.
Build and manage relationships with external stakeholders (regulators, external counsel, advisors).
Advise on and negotiate diverse commercial arrangements.
Participate in potential acquisitions and M&A transactions.
Serve as a key Legal Department resource for all legal matters globally (employment, IP, privacy, cybersecurity, AML/KYC/sanctions compliance, etc.).
Support the General Counsel in global Legal Department management.
What skillset do you need to be successful in this role?
Graduation of a top tier law university including potential ongoing post-graduate studies.
Min. 10 years of experience, ideally in a combination of private law firm and inhouse corporate environments, advising on financial services regulatory matters.
Experience with FX, derivatives and cryptocurrency trading from a commercial, legal and regulatory perspective.
Membership in good standing of the New York Bar.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to solve problems by making sense of complex information.
Strategic planning & organizing skills.
Ability to be a regulatory authority.
