Job Summary
The Paralegal provides advanced legal support to the Chief Operating Officer and attorneys in a fast-paced litigation environment, with a primary focus on small claims, case preparation, and chronology development. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience drafting pleadings, managing garnishments and discovery, and ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines. This role demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex case files from start to resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Case Preparation & Chronology
· Develop, manage, and maintain detailed case chronologies to support litigation strategy.
· Collect, organize, and analyze case documents, evidence, and discovery materials.
· Create and maintain key event timelines to support case strategy and court preparation.
Litigation & Small Claims
· Draft, file, and serve pleadings, motions, garnishments, affidavits, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
· Prepare and organize small claims case files in coordination with the COO, including gathering supporting documentation and follow up with client services and/or compliance department.
Discovery & Document Management
· Coordinate all aspects of discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
· Maintain case management systems and ensure accurate, up-to-date case files.
Administrative & Client Support
· Maintain clear communication with in-house management regarding case status, deadlines, and required documentation.
· Monitor and calendar all litigation deadlines, hearings, and court appearances.
· Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal court rules.
· Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs.
Qualifications & Skills:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred.
· Experience: 2–5 years of litigation paralegal experience with a focus on small claims, case preparation, and chronology management. Debt collections experience a plus.
· Strong working knowledge of civil procedure, discovery rules, and trial preparation.
· Proficiency in Microsoft tools.
· Exceptional skills in document drafting, case analysis, and legal research.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines with high attention to detail.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, clients, and staff.
Preferred Skills
· Prior experience supporting attorneys in complex litigation and high-volume small claims matters.
· Expertise in developing comprehensive case chronologies and organizing large volumes of case data.
· Familiarity with e-filing procedures in federal, state, and local courts.
Physical Demands:
· Sitting for long periods of time, 6-8 hours a day
· Using computer and telephone systems, 6-8 hours a day
· Repetitive hand and wrist movement, 6-8 hours a day
Environment & Schedule:
· Business office (call center setting)
· 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday (schedule may vary due to the company’s needs and workload)
· Occasional travel may be required.
