SafeHaven Legal Services is seeking a Paralegal.
This position provides support for the SafeHaven of Tarrant County Legal Services attorneys. Paralegals assist the Legal Services attorneys in all aspects of family law and protective order cases accepted including assisting in hearing and trial preparation and filing court documents. Further, paralegals maintain office systems and calendars while meeting all deadlines. This position must have the ability to work with highly confidential information and documentation, maintaining such confidentiality at all times.
Responsibilities
The position has significant responsibilities, including the following:
- Prepare legal documents as directed by Legal Services attorneys.
- File/E-File legal documents with the judicial courts.
- Schedule appointments, including but not limited to, court dates and office appointments.
- Maintain office systems and calendars while meeting all deadlines.
- Maintain the legal programs calendar.
- Comply with deadlines as directed by the Legal Services attorneys, judicial courts, or SafeHaven of Tarrant County.
- Obtain information needed to pursue legal remedies for victims.
- Prepare and direct delivery of subpoenas.
- Attend hearings as required by the Legal Services attorneys.
- Maintain and update client lists and information.
- Maintain necessary service data for statistical reporting.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with judges, opposing counsel, opposing parties, clients, and SafeHaven employees.
- Must be able to work an in-office schedule as directed by the Legal Services attorneys and be available to work during the period which the courthouse is conducting business between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is not a remote position.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications
The specific qualifications for this role are:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Paralegal certificate required.
- One year experience as paralegal preferred.
- Family law experience preferred.
- Ability to produce clear, concise, and effective legal documents.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to communicate with referrals and clients in a trauma informed and culturally competent manner.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Current Texas Driver’s License Required. Must provide proof of automobile liability insurance.
- Frequent prolonged sitting, occasional walking, stooping, and standing and lifting of up to 20 pounds.
- Frequent exposure to communicable diseases.
- Occasional exposure to clients with addiction or psychiatric disorders.
- Frequent appearances in public legal facilities such as police departments, courthouses, law offices and therefore some contact with victims' perpetrators of abuse.
