Job Description
The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is distinct among United States Attorney's Offices due to the breadth and scale of its work. It acts as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. Locally, it handles cases ranging from misdemeanor drug possession to murders, while federally, it handles cases ranging from child pornography to gang, financial fraud, and terrorism. The Office represents the district in civil suits.
Duties If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for legal report development using computerized case tracking and record-keeping systems in the Docketing Unit of the Criminal Division in the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Typical work assignments will include: - Ensures information is entered timely and accurately into databases and systems. - Utilizes automation techniques to produce valid and reliable data and data analyses based on the specific needs of the requestor: - Updates databases and systems to record status changes in all items docketed. - Recognizes data elements that are missing and locates as necessary. - Receives and updates inquiries on case status from Criminal Division staff, e.g., Chief, Deputy Chiefs, AUSAs and legal support staff, the Court, other USAO-DC staff, defense counsel and other external partners. - Retrieves information using query routines or from hard copy reports. - Performs necessary research to correct and update case records. - Develops and maintains automated records from initial referral to final disposition and case file closure. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
