Duties
Serves as the National Veterans Support Coordinator (NVSC) for the National Employee Wellness Branch within the Human Resource Management Division (HRMD) of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Responsibilities include providing oversite for the BOP's Battle Buddy (B3) Program, disseminating information about, and developing activities for use by the B3, consulting on critical incidents involving employees who are military veterans, and assisting in the development of other employee support activities. Responsible for researching, developing, and implementing activities to reduce the risk for suicide in employees who are military veterans. Performs a variety of complex analytical activities to evaluate, develop, advise, and promote improvement in policies, practices, methods, and procedures, to benefit BOP military veterans. Researches, provides interpretation, information, and advice on policies and procedures affecting the BOP's military veterans. Analyzes and evaluates administrative internal control systems to assess compliance with agency directives and effectiveness. Works closely with veterans' organizations, government agencies outside the BOP, and community resources to ensure BOP military veterans receive the assistance they require.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following: Basic Requirements: A. Degree: that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences. OR B. Combination of education and experience - that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences, and that provided applicants with knowledge of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a 4-year degree as shown in A above. Evaluation of Education - Courses, such as sociology, correctional administration, criminal justice, government/political science, psychology, social work, counseling, and other related social or behavioral science courses may be used to satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement. Evaluation of Experience - Experience must have been gained in (1)casework in a correctional institution or in another criminal justice setting; (2) counseling in any setting, provided it required diagnostic or treatment planning skills to achieve specific social or occupational goals; or (3) work treating persons in need of social rehabilitation. AND In addition to the basic requirements, you must have: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience with planning/developing, implementing, and evaluation of clinical programs and services, to facilitate referrals to treatment programs. Experience with communicating with agency leadership and outside stakeholders regarding program implementation, outcomes, assessment, and/or recommendations for improvement. Experience with creating and implementing policy regarding national programs. AND Quality Ranking Factor: At least 24 months as a consultant for mental health assessment or intervention concerns to a facility or organization. Specifically, provided consultation regarding mental health crises and/or assessments and/or interventions/treatments to organizational leadership and other departments/sections of the organization.
