This role will handle all Docket Clerk responsibilities for the Court and assist judges at Bond Court hearings on assigned weekends and holidays. This role also serves as the backup to the weekday Bond Court Clerk and assists them when necessary. The Docket and Bond Court Clerk must be available all actual holiday and City observed holidays, as well as a minimum of two weekends a month to act as the clerk for the weekend/holiday Bond Court. Hours may vary.
Supports the judge and overall courtroom operations including providing all details of case information to the judge, organizing upcoming cases, calling cases on the docket, and receiving and providing information on the disposition of cases to appropriate parties.
Enters dispositions on cases at completion.
Performs docket preparation duties before and after court.
Processes all motions, orders, and appeals.
Ensures there are video and audio recordings of cases and hearings.
Enters case dispositions and orders in Case Management System (CMS).
Prepares bond hearing packages for judges and ensures bond packages are complete and in compliance with South Carolina law.
Ensures video equipment is operating in advance of bond hearings.
Communicates with holding facility as needed.
Processes paperwork following bond hearings.
Maintains accurate records of bond hearings in a timely manner and works independently with excellent organizational skills.
Communicates on a regular basis with CPD staff and officers, defense attorneys, victims, and family members of both defendants and victims.
Assists judges as otherwise needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Associate degree (AA/AS) in a related field and 2 years of related experience and/or training in the criminal justice system or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software and CMS system.
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
