
Manager, Business Development – West Coast Practices
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP See More Job Openings by This EmployerThe Manager, Business Development is responsible for working with Business Development Directors to support strategic plans and objectives for selected practice groups, client/industry groups, and Partners in Southern California and the Bay Area. This role manages relationships and serves as a key resource assisting with related communications, research, reporting, project coordination and development and implementation efforts of strategic plans to ensure successful growth and consistency regarding the Firm’s key business initiatives.
Responsibilities
Assist in the development and lead the implementation of strategies to cultivate business with existing and new clients
Conduct market/business intelligence research on existing and prospective clients and competitors to inform targeted business development efforts
Conduct internal research to identify connections across practice groups and California offices in order to facilitate global cross-selling with existing clients
Coordinate with firm Business Development team to produce high-quality pitch materials consistent with colleagues in New York/London
Collaborate closely with industry and client team leads to execute on broader BD and client-engagement efforts
Research and recommend conferences, events, sponsorships, galas, and activities that can raise the profile of the firm across Southern California and the Bay Area
Coordinate with firm Business Development team or thirdparty vendors to plan and execute events, sponsorships, and client facing continuing legal education (CLE) opportunities
Act as an accountability coach to partners to track business development efforts and ensure timely follow-up
Coordinate with research team to source articles of interest and create follow-up materials to support business development activities
Coordinate with Business Development team on preparing attorney/office/practice ranking, potential award and related support materials
Coordinate with Communications team to identify media opportunities that raise the profile of the firm across Southern California and the Bay Area
Coordinate with Communications team to post relevant Los Angeles and Bay Area offices accomplishments on STB E-News/Legal Highlights, LinkedIn and other relevant outlets
Provide quarterly reporting on business development efforts including expenditures and ROI (where quantifiable)
Make annual budget recommendations and manage department activities according to the budget
Bachelor’s degree required
At least 4 years of management experience in marketing/business development
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with key stakeholders
Ability to travel between California offices as necessary
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
Ability to interact well and build professional relationships while maintaining a high level of customer service, diplomacy and discretion
Ability to proactively identify and analyze problems, develop solutions and deliver results
Salary Information
CA Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $190,000 to $210,000 at the time of posting.
The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
