After Brightline Florida completed the first passenger rail system connecting Miami and Orlando, Brightline West was formed to connect Las Vegas and Southern California through the nation’s first true high-speed, electric passenger rail system. Reaching speeds of more than 186 miles per hour, this 218-mile high-speed rail service will take passengers from Las Vegas to the Greater Los Angeles area twice as fast as the normal drive time.

SUMMARY
We are looking for an experienced Assistant General Counsel to join our Brightline West team. This attorney will serve as a member of a team of in-house legal advisors to assist with project development and construction, including representing Brightline West in connection with all new and existing construction, maintenance, and other agreements and providing day-to-day legal advice.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Contract Negotiation & Management: Negotiate, draft, and manage complex agreements in support of Brightline West’s development, construction, maintenance, and operations of its high-speed passenger rail line.
Contract Counseling and Enforcement: Provide contract interpretation and advice to our business teams in administering and enforcing agreements. Interface with senior management of all departments and other stakeholders, internally and externally, and provide agreement interpretation. Manage contract enforcement actions as needed.
Partnership & Collaboration: As part of the Brightline West in-house legal team, support internal projects, training, and processes, and drive cross-functional efforts. Provide additional legal support on a range of topics as needed.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- J.D. required.
- 5-10 years of commercial legal experience, with a strong preference for construction and/or rail experience.
- Bar admission (NV or CA preferred, with ability to be certified as in-house counsel in those states if not admitted there.)
Knowledge and Skills
- Possess a strong understanding of contracts and contract management, negotiation skills, and a keen eye for details.
- Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration regulatory requirements a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined management team.
- Excellent analytical capabilities as well as written and oral presentation and communication skills.
- Business-focused – a commercial lawyer who aims to understand the business and possesses an understanding of how legal terms translate to business impact to support overall company initiatives and goals.
- Impeccable integrity and a strong personal work ethic.
- The ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple assignments and tasks across multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment.
