Assists the Chief Legal Officer and the PHC Legal Department in providing advice and counsel to all affiliates,
including hospital operators and employed physician practices. Provides legal advice on matters impacting the
organization, which may include physician and vendor contract review, real property and leases, mergers and
acquisitions, claims management, litigation management, and medical staff matters. Reviews and advises on the
development and implementation of internal policies and procedures. Assists with the coordination of outside
counsel resources.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews and interprets contracts and other transactional documents, which have potential legal implications.
- Reviews, interprets, and advises on other types of legal documentation according to applicable laws and within the context of Piedmont Healthcare guidelines.
- Reviews and drafts agreement with physician and other clinical personnel, including employment agreements, professional services agreements, and clinical affiliation agreements.
- Provides research and other legal support to business units; drafts legal summaries and other documents related to legal issues and transactions.
- Provides due diligence review and support in connection with transactional matters such as acquisitions and financings.
- Assists in the maintenance of the centralized contract management system.
- Uses outside legal resources in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
Education
- JD from accredited law school Required
- 5 years of professional work experience, including experience as an in-house counsel with a for-profit or not-for-profit health care system and/or with a major law firm dealing with health care contracting, legal and compliance issues, including experience dealing with government regulations relating to contracting, health care law and compliance program implementation, and general statutory issues Required
- Experience in legal research and legal agreement drafting Required
- Admission to State Bar Upon Hire Required
- Georgia State Bar Preferred
