Duties
If selected for this position, you will serve as a Victim Assistance Specialist with the United States Attorney's Office, Middle District of Tennessee. Duties will include, but are not limited to: Provides information to attorneys regarding victims and makes recommendations about potential challenges. Develops and implements specific program activities which promote compliance with Federal victim laws and guidelines. Provides victims with victim rights information, case notifications, phone assistance and in-court support. Guides victims through criminal justice system. Prepares victims for courtroom appearances and/or contacts with legal representatives. Obtains services and assistance for victims through community resources and other specific federal programs and funds. Conducts victim assistance workshops, seminars and meetings with law enforcement and federal, state and local investigative agencies and community organizations. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as supporting others that advocate on behalf of crime victims; providing information to victims in regard to status of cases and results of trials; providing in court support during hearings; and obtaining services and assistances for victims. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
