Job Description
We’re looking for an experienced, business-minded attorney who understands the intersection of law, lending, and innovation. As a key member of our Legal team, you’ll shape strategy across the organization and partner with leadership to drive compliant growth within a highly regulated consumer finance and fintech environment.
The ideal candidate is a strategic generalist who has operated in or advised financial institutions, banks, fintech’s, or payments companies. You bring deep regulatory insight, commercial pragmatism, and the ability to guide teams through complex legal and operational decisions in a fast-moving credit and payments ecosystem.
How you’ll make an impact:
- Strategic Legal Partnership
- Advise senior executives on key legal and business decisions impacting growth, risk, and operational efficiency.
- Translate regulatory and contractual complexity into clear business guidance that accelerates decision-making.
- Serve as a trusted advisor across multiple business lines, from consumer lending and collections to data privacy and employment law.
- Vendor, Partnership & Commercial Contracting
- Lead negotiations for vendor, technology, and financial partnership agreements, including loan servicing, data sharing, and payment processing.
- Develop standard templates, playbooks, and negotiation frameworks to scale contracting across the organization.
- Assist with on-going legal and compliance aspect of existing credit facilities.
- Data Privacy & Information Governance
- Drive privacy compliance efforts across GLBA, CCPA, GDPR, and other consumer data protection regimes.
- Collaborate with Product and Security teams to ensure fintech data usage aligns with privacy-by-design principles.
- Intellectual Property & Brand Protection
- Manage and monitor the company’s IP portfolio, including federal and state trademarks and proprietary technology assets.
- Corporate Entity Management
- Advise on legal matters, including the formation, structure, and governance of legal entities, and other corporate legal issues. Managing corporate organizational documents, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
- Financial Regulatory & Product Counsel
- Work with legal team to provide legal and regulatory guidance across consumer finance, credit, and payments products, ensuring compliance with federal and state lending laws (TILA, ECOA, FCRA, FDCPA, UDAAP, and others).
- Partner with Product, Compliance, and Risk to structure innovative financial products and partnerships that meet business goals while staying fully compliant.
- Support examinations, audits, and regulatory engagement with federal and state regulators, including the CFPB, FTC, and state banking departments.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
- 8+ years of experience practicing law with a focus on consumer finance, fintech, banking, or payments—ideally within an in-house legal department or financial services regulatory practice.
- Deep understanding of financial regulatory frameworks, including consumer lending, credit underwriting, privacy, and licensing.
- Proven experience supporting commercial negotiations, partnerships, and vendor governance.
- Exceptional ability to balance risk management with practical, business-driven advice.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of presenting to executive leadership and regulatory agencies.
