Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement
The Criminal Division’s Felony Trial Unit in New Castle County is seeking a Deputy Attorney General to fill the supervisory role of Unit Head.
Essential Functions
This Unit Head (UH) will serve alongside one other UH and will oversee the overall management of the New Castle County Felony Trial Unit. The Unit prosecutes all felony cases arising in New Castle County, except for homicides, sex offenses, and domestic violence matters. The UH is expected to maintain strong working relationships with local police agencies, the Court, and the defense bar.  In addition to managing cases and daily operations, the UH will mentor and train Deputy Attorneys General (DAGs) and administrative staff, and must be willing to observe DAGs in trial and other court proceedings to provide feedback and support. The role includes supervising DAGs and staff, addressing personnel matters, and allocating work assignments. The UH also provides case guidance—determining which cases should proceed to prosecution, be resolved through plea offers, or go to trial.
Job Requirements
A candidate for this leadership position should have the skills necessary to effectively manage staff, engage Deputy Attorneys General in trainings, and have a high proficiency in criminal prosecution. Strengths should include the ability to evaluate and try criminal cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues.  Must have or be able to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff, and Court personnel.  Must have demonstrated ability to try cases in Superior Court, and thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules.  Membership in the is Delaware Bar required.

  • This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.  This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
