This Paralegal II position will assist in managing Marriott’s franchise disclosure document (FDD) update process by helping to draft and update Marriott’s FDDs for use in the United States and Canada and assisting with filing and maintaining franchise registrations and exemption applications with various governmental authorities. The Paralegal II position will also undertake special assignments relating to the administration of Marriott’s franchise system and the enforcement of system standards, including research, review, analysis of contract documentation, and related tasks. The franchise regulatory compliance team sits within the broader U.S./Canada Asset Management and Owner & Franchisee Relations team, which is responsible for supporting Marriott’s open owned, managed and franchised lodging properties in the United States and Canada.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required
- Four-year college degree and work experience of one year, OR Two-year college degree and minimum relevant work experience of three years, OR at least ten years of relevant work experience as a paralegal.
- Excellent multi-tasking skills and the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Expertise in the use of MS Word, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, and iManage.
- Ability to routinely work from the HQ office in Bethesda, currently 3-4 days/week.
- Availability for minimal travel and flexibility for overtime, in particular from January through May.
Preferred
- Prior franchise regulatory compliance experience is strongly preferred.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
- Assist in managing the annual FDD update process, which includes developing a project plan, task and responsibilities list, and a timeline for the project.
- Assist in preparing, updating, and maintaining Marriott’s FDDs and related documents for use in the United States, Canada, and other jurisdictions.
- Collect the information necessary to update and prepare FDDs and collateral documents for submission to government authorities annually and as required. Update the documents accordingly. Assist in the filing of franchise registration/exemption applications with various regulatory authorities in the United States and abroad.
- Assist in preparing and regularly updating franchise seller disclosure forms and other ancillary materials that must be filed with regulatory authorities in connection with the offer and sale of franchises.
- Undertake special assignments relating to the administration of Marriott’s franchise system and the enforcement of system standards, including research, review, and analysis of contract documentation and other issues.
- Review and screen information, comments, and questions received from franchisees and their counsel, and prepare initial draft responses for attorney review.
- Facilitate full execution of documents by franchisees and ensure executed originals are returned and filed appropriately.
- Undertake special assignments, including research, review, and analysis of contract documentation and other issues.
- Update enterprise legal management database for up-to-date tracking of the status of franchise documents.
- Respond as necessary to miscellaneous franchise regulatory and operational issues.
The hourly pay range for this position is $33.94 to $50.00.
