IN-HOUSE COUNSEL

JOB DESCRIPTION: Singleton Schreiber, LLP is seeking a highly experienced and motivated In-House Counsel or Senior Counsel to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior-level attorney to provide broad legal support to the firm's leadership and operations, with a focus on legal ethics, employment law, contract review, and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring 7 or more years of relevant legal experience, strong judgment, and the ability to balance legal risk with business needs in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

$175,000-$225,000 annually

Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualifications for the role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance on matters related to attorney professional responsibility, conflicts of interest, and compliance with state bar regulations.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including vendor agreements, NDAs, and consulting arrangements.
  • Advise on employment law matters including hiring practices, wage and hour compliance, employee relations, workplace investigations, leaves of absence, and policy development.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal policies to ensure legal and regulatory compliance across firm operations.
  • Conduct and oversee internal audits, risk assessments, and investigations related to ethical or compliance issues.
  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and advise firm leadership on their potential impact.
  • Collaborate with the HR, operations, and executive teams to address internal matters efficiently and in line with applicable laws.
  • Serve as a liaison to outside counsel and manage external legal resources when necessary.
  • Assist with special projects, strategic initiatives, and other legal duties as assigned by firm leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in California.
  • 7+ years of experience in a legal, compliance, or risk management role, preferably in a civil litigation law firm or in-house setting.
  • Strong knowledge of legal ethics, employment law, contract law, and general compliance practices.
  • Experience advising or working within a law firm or professional services organization is highly desirable.
  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or similar compliance credential is a plus.
  • Familiarity with legal technology systems and compliance tracking tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound legal and business judgment.
