Job Overview and Requirements

Attorney is responsible for conducting a “meaningful attorney review” of files and to determine and implement the next steps in the Portnoff Law Associates, Ltd. collection process. File review includes but is not limited to a determination of whether service has been effectuated pursuant to relevant statutory authority. Attorney is also responsible to sign pleadings and handle written and phone communications to counsel and property owners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review and sign pleadings. Resolve any issues where pleadings are not ready to be filed.
  • Review files to ensure that validation of the debt pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) has been met and diary them appropriately for the next steps in the process.
  • Review files to ascertain whether notice requirements under 53 P.S. §7106 are met.
  • Review and sign legal demand letters. Resolve any issues where they are not ready to be mailed.
  • Ensure that service of the writ of scire facias has been made according to the Rules of Civil Procedure; prepare, review and sign Rule 237.1 notice of our intent to enter default judgment.
  • Communicate with counsel and property owners by phone and/or email as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Know and apply the relevant federal and state laws, including but not limited to the Municipal Claims and Tax Liens Act, 53 P.S. §7101, et seq., the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and the Fair Credit Extension Uniformity Act (FCEUA).
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Dependable, with strong work ethic and personal integrity.
  • PC Proficient: Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams). Familiarity with Collection Partner or a similar collections database a plus.
Education and/or Experience:
  • J. D with Pennsylvania License.
  • Entry-level Attorney with up to 3 years of experience.
