Job Description Summary

The Director, Contract Management and Legal Support, is a key member of the legal department, responsible for the contract management process for the Legal Department and providing legal support to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements. This role involves managing a team of contract paralegals and collaborating closely with various departments and subject matter experts within legal.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Review and negotiate various contract types to ensure they comply with legal requirements and company policies/practices, identifying potential risks within the contract terms, and recommend necessary revisions or negotiations to mitigate those risks.  Contract types include, without limitation:
    • Master Services Agreements
    • Software as a Service Agreements
    • Supply Agreements
    • Research Agreements
    • Quality Agreements
    • Confidentiality Agreements
    • HCP Consulting Agreements
    • Amendments
    • Other agreements as needed
  • Manage and mentor non-attorney legal support staff. Provide guidance and support to ensure that the team meets its objectives, maintains high standards of performance, and continues to develop.
  • Meet with Procurement and other internal stakeholders for contracting strategy; facilitate communication and collaboration between departments to resolve any contract-related issues.
  • Assist with developing and implementing process improvements, including integration of technological enhancements.
  • Other projects as may be requested from time to time.

Minimum Requirements

Education / Experience / Skills:

  • A bachelor's degree in relevant field; JD preferred
  • At least 10 years’ experience reviewing commercial contracts, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Pharmaceutical experience required
  • Strong understanding of contract law and legal principles
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong attention to accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to mentor legal support staff
  • Demonstrated technical and leadership skills, including navigating team dynamics, conflict resolution, decision making, and exercise of good judgement.
  • Ability to plan and execute tasks on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must strive for continuous improvements in all work activities, including adoption of technology and new processes.

Organizational Relationship/Scope

The Director, Contracting and Legal Support, Commercial Operations role will work closely with other members of the legal department, including outside counsel, and all departments that have third party contracts (e.g., Research and Development, Commercial, Compliance, Quality, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Facilities, etc.). This role will also manage and develop the team supporting the contract management process.

Working Conditions

The Director, Contracting and Legal Support, Commercial Operations role will mainly work in an office environment.
