Job Description

PARALEGAL ______________________________________________________________________________   LOCATION: Corporate                                                                    DIVISION: EVP/CFO             FUNCTION DESCRIPTION:   Processes and compiles a variety of records for subpoena, court ordered, and litigation related requests for production in a timely, accurate and professional manner.  Maintains thorough knowledge of all Credit Union records and the subpoena process.  Maintains and manages a steady caseload of subpoenas and various records requests.  Reviews, drafts and edits standard form contracts and legal documents. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and a variety of law offices, government agencies, and vendors. Assists with any litigation-related matters (including arbitration) as it relates to the filing of documents (e.g., motions, affidavits, answers, etc.), as well as compiling documents for requests or depositions.    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:   Education:       High School Diploma or equivalent.  Certificate in paralegal studies preferred.   Experience:     Minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department Litigation/arbitration experience a plus Experience reviewing contracts and standard form legal documents preferred   Skills:             Excellent written/verbal communication skills, and the ability to prepare legal forms and letters as needed Outstanding problem solving/decision making skills                         Ability to handle confidential information                         Strong attention to detail                         Highly developed ability to manage time, tasks, deadlines, and shifting priorities Proficiency in using various computer systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Excel Ability to learn and navigate software, systems, and applications as needed to perform duties Ability to interact with others in a positive manner both in person, by email and by phone   Equipment:     PC, printer, copier, fax, telephone, calculator               ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   Review standard form legal documents such as Certifications of Trust, Letters of Conservatorship, Letters of Guardianship, Power of Attorney, Writs of Garnishment, Small Estate Affidavits, Probate Orders and other legal documents submitted by customers and interested third parties for membership, loan application, or account related requests, and provide feedback to applicable staff and third parties as needed.   Review, edit and draft standard form contracts and communications with third party service providers such as Non-Disclosure Agreements and Termination or Renewal Notices.   Communicate with outside counsel as needed, assist Bellco staff in processing records for litigation-related matters and organize, prepare and produce the records as requested by the Bellco legal team or outside counsel. Manage staff calendars with the applicable deadlines for production of such records.   Receive, review and log incoming subpoenas, court orders and records requests from various federal and state agencies and/or departments for adherence to required components per Colorado and federal law, including proper service of the subpoena, court order or request.   Update, maintain and manage the subpoena, government records requests, and litigation related caseload and files with the applicable deadlines and update staff calendars with the same.   Process, compile and submit all records requested and follow up with requesting parties when needed.   Prepare and arrange records for proper presentation and production of records requested in subpoenas, government records requests, and litigation related matters in adherence with all applicable rules and policies.   Manage and assign case load to team members as needed and monitor work activities to ensure work quality, accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures.   Draft responses, privilege logs, objections and requests pertaining to subpoenas, government records requests, and litigation related matters, and respond to any enquiries on the documents produced.     Update, maintain and manage a steady subpoena, government records requests and litigation caseload and all applicable files.   Manage and assign case load to team members as needed and monitor work activities to ensure work quality, accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures.   Draft responses, objections and requests pertaining to subpoenas, government records requests and litigation matters and respond to any inquiries pertaining to the same.   Schedule telephone, video conferencing and court appearances, and maintain staff calendars accordingly.   Attend court appearances or depositions when needed as custodian of records, if applicable.   Maintain confidentiality of customer related information and adhere to all applicable laws, regulations and policies.   Develop schedules and methods for performing assigned duties; maintain appropriate work records and documents, and compile information for annual or similar reports as needed. Assist with the Compliance function, as requested.   Assist with the BSA function, as requested.   Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of this position at any time.   WORKING CONDITIONS:   Office environment
