CITY OF FARMINGTON

JOB POSITION #92: COURT CLERK I

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1

DEPARTMENT: Municipal Court

WORK LOCATION: Municipal Court

HIRING RANGE: $15.5246/ Hour

PAY GRADE: E - Non-Exempt

TYPE OF POSITION: Regular / Full-Time

DAYS WORKED: Monday-Friday

HOURS WORKED: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

JOB DUTIES

This is an at-will position which serves at the pleasure of the COURT.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Works under the supervision of the Court Administrator.

Performs numerous clerical functions such as preparing files, retrieving files, updating information, etc.

Performs routine cashiering duties for the Municipal Court. Responsible for providing adequate coverage in the cashiers booth on high volume days.

Heavy customer contact providing numerous customer service functions such as greeting the public, answering questions, directing inquires and generally assisting the public with court related matters.

Receives and records cash, and check payments to include fine payments, cash bonds and all other fees.

Receives payments for traffic citations from public and through the mail.

Balances daily receipts with computer generated print out. Totals receipts, checks and cash using calculator. Submits accurate and balanced documents to the Court Administrator for daily deposit to bank. Must accurately balance on a daily basis.

Prepares and maintains files and filings of all municipal court related papers, dockets, case files, and case related correspondence.

Performs data entry functions regarding citations, fines, and court cases. Ensures data entry is current and accurate.

Assists with community service-related functions for individuals who are unable to pay fines or citations. Coordinates with the appropriate agencies for community service work. Follows through with all parties to ensure assignment was completed.

Updates files, computer and paper files.

Cross-trains in other court areas as assigned.

Performs all other duties as assigned by the Court Administrator.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

May be required to act as an interpreter, as necessary.

May serve on a variety of employee committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Previous office experience required. Knowledge of legal and court proceedings highly desirable.

Ability to type 45 WPM, or at a rate sufficient to perform duties of the job and enter data accurately.

Ability to perform arithmetic functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and ability to maintain accuracy in these functions in order to balance receipts and make change.

Ability to learn judicial language and procedures. Ability to learn legal language and legal procedures to municipal court functions.

Comprehensive knowledge of alphabetical and numeric filing systems. Knowledge of records management filing systems. Ability to maintain accurate records.

Ability to understand, speak and translate in the Spanish language to assist customers is preferred, but not required.

Strong customer service skills and ability to handle irate customers.

Knowledge of police department procedures in order to answer inquires and follow through with work assignments.

Skill in the operation of the listed tools equipment.

Ability to effectively communicate on a one-to-one basis with the public.

Ability to maintain cooperative and effective working relations with employees, other departments, officials and the public.

TOOLS EQUIPMENT USED:

Personal computer system including word processing and specialized court software, 10-key calculator, typewriter, phone, copy and fax machine, microfilm camera and reader, shredder and cash register.
