Position Summary

Works under general supervision to assist in the agency's accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable, budget forecasting, and other general accounting functions.

 

Pay Grade: 45

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or a related field; AND
  • Three (3) years of experience in the use of accounting principles, techniques, and theories; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience. 
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
     

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees financial record keeping.
  • Accurately records and maintains financial transactions related to court proceedings.
  • Ensures financial records are organized, accessible, and easily auditable.
  • Prepares and compiles financial reports, such as general ledgers, statements of accounts, and other financial documents, as required by the court.
  • Analyzes financial data to identify trends, potential issues, and areas for improvement.
  • Participates in the development and management of the court’s budget.
  • Analyzes financial data to forecast future financial needs and trends.
  • Manages the court’s cash flow, including processing payments.
  • Reconciles bank accounts and ensures accurate record-keeping of cash transactions.
  • Balances the cash box and distributes checks.
  • Orders change needed for each department.
  • Manages minor investment accounts.
  • Performs other duties to support the department and other operational functions throughout the Circuit Court. Clerk’s Office.
     

KSA’s

  • Knowledge of accounting theory, practices, and auditing procedures. 
  • Knowledge of budgeting, fiscal management, and purchasing procedures. 
  • Ability to prepare and maintain detailed accounting records. 
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating decisions and situations and preparing information. 
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to work with coworkers and the public with courtesy and tact. 
  • Ability to operate all office machines, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.


Special Requirements

  • Must pass a PCI background investigation, including both local and national background checks.

This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department. The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff’s Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
