LEGAL ASSISTANT

DEPARTMENT: Public Defender

HIRING RANGE:                             $22.36-$24.84/hour based on education and position related experience. Longevity pay after 3 years.

POSITION TO BE FILLED: July 1, 2025

HOURS & DAYS OF WORK: Monday 8 - 5 p.m.; Tuesday - Friday 8 - 4 p.m.

LOCATION OF POSITION:             Elkhart & Goshen

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:            Within County (please complete driving page on application)


JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing clerical assistance, performing data entry/retrieval, researching and providing information/documents as needed for court proceedings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED
Paralegal training and bilingual skills (English/Spanish) highly preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Excellent organizational, communication skills and a sound knowledge of office procedures and practices
Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate or hostile individuals
Pre-employment background check and drug screen
