
- Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and two years increasingly responsible secretarial experience including experience as a legal secretary; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Good knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and grammar; of office procedures, methods and practices; of principles and practices of effective customer service. Working skill in the operation of word processing equipment and other automated office systems; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; ability to operate standard office equipment, good oral/written communications. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. - Duties
Responsibilities include organizing and processing all legal paperwork mandated by the Code of Virginia and the courts/judges of Chesterfield specializing with Domestic Violence cases. Functions include; answering incoming calls; assisting the public; typing legal correspondences, letters, memos, court orders, etc.; data entry, filing of criminal records, copying, running background checks on VCIN (will be trained and certified by Virginia State Police), providing back-up for all legal secretaries as needed. Perform other work as required. This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience. - Shift
24 hours/week; Monday - Friday between 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
