This position reports directly to the General Counsel and may involve project supervision of office staff. The position will focus on public procurement, negotiating, contracting, and business transactions. The position will also assist in advising university stakeholders on a variety of legal matters such as privacy, research, property, land use, construction, intellectual property, patent and trademark related activities, policy review/development, and monitoring legislative, regulatory, compliance related matters, and other duties as needed or assigned.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate$138,000 - $150,000

1. J.D. from an accredited United States law school.
2. Licensed to practice law in Illinois or the ability to become licensed within one year of employment.
3. Ten years or more of experience practicing as an attorney
4. Five years or more of legal experience in Illinois public procurement, contracting, and business transactions.
5. Excellent written communication, legal research, and analytical skills with ability to prepare well-developed legal opinions, professional legal correspondence, and other legal documents.
6. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, ability to address groups with confidence.
7. Ability to prioritize and work on multiple, concurrent and complex issues and projects.
8. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with professional colleagues and senior university administrators.
9. Ability to represent the University professionally and tactfully with demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, clients, and outside counsel.
10. Proficiency with use of common computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe, Excel).
1. Experience representing higher education or public sector clients.
2. Intellectual Property experience (e.g., trademark, copyright, sponsored research, information technology, licensing operations, technology transfer, and patent review and prosecution processes).
3. Experience monitoring and advising on federal/state legislative and regulatory matters.
4. Compliance program experience.
