Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Human Resources Technology Business Analyst in our Human Resources department, reporting directly to the Workday Manager.
The position can reside in the Washington D.C. or New York office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for the daily support of the firm’s various human resources systems, including performance, maintenance, information security, testing updates and improving process efficiency, HR data reporting, and HR applications support. The HR Technology Business Analyst is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s lawyers and staff, efficient and effective departmental operations, and an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the HR Technology Business Analyst must fulfill the needs of the office in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Act as technical support analyst for HR systems, addressing issues and ensuring system performance.
- Serve as the project lead for HR system projects and initiatives, overseeing end-to-end implementation and execution.
- Provide functional and technical support, troubleshooting system issues, ensuring data accuracy, and testing system changes.
- Develop, maintain, and improve user procedures, guidelines, and business process documentation to support system users.
- Manage system access controls, maintain security protocols, and perform regular data audits to ensure compliance and integrity.
- Analyze HR system functionality to identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements, delivering optimized solutions.
- Participate in planning, testing, and implementing system upgrades, new module deployments, and other enhancements.
- Stay informed about current trends in HR technology and ensure systems align with statutory and regulatory requirements, including those affecting Core HCM, Benefits, and Payroll functions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate project needs, perform business analysis, document requirements, and create detailed project plans.
- Develop project charters, technical specifications, and architecture documentation to support identified projects.
- Maintain regular communication with leadership and key stakeholders, providing project updates and proactively managing risks.
- Serve as a liaison between technical teams and business units, translating requirements into actionable deliverables and facilitating successful project implementations.
- Analyze and diagnose the root cause of system or project issues, providing resolution or coordinating with appropriate resources.
- Create and manage detailed checklists and timelines, ensuring all technical, operational, and business tasks are addressed.
- Participate in the design and documentation of roadmap strategies for future HR technology initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with privacy regulations such as HIPAA and GDPR, safeguarding sensitive data.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in HR, computer science, or a related field.
- A minimum of at least 3-6 years of HR and HRIS system experience with proficient knowledge of Human Resources, Benefits and Payroll processes and policy.
- Project Management and/or prior HRMS/Human Capital Management implementation experience strongly preferred.
- Experience and expertise with Workday Payroll, Benefits, Time Tracking, and Absence required; experience with Recruiting and Talent Management, custom reporting preferred. Expertise with Microsoft office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency working with HRIS, databases and reporting applications.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and ability to communicate with non-technical and technical personnel.
- Requires excellent analytical skills with a demonstrated understanding of the concepts and issues unique to the management of HR data.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities and deadlines in a professional manner.

The anticipated base salary range for this position in Washington, DC and New York, NY is $105,000- $120,000. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, years of relevant experience, certifications or other professional licenses held, job-related knowledge and skills, business needs, and the location from which the work will be performed. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package, which may also include a full range of health and other insurance benefits, financial and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility), a discretionary bonus, and various paid time off benefits.
