Job Description

KEY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Legal Research, Document Drafting, and Case Support 

  • Prepares various substantive legal documents for attorney review and approval, including discovery letters, exhibit lists, subpoenas, and trial instructions. 
  • Maintains and reviews inventories of materials produced pursuant to subpoenas. 
  • Researches and summarizes relevant legal precedents, prepares digests of points of law, and conducts legal analysis using Westlaw, Lexis, and other resources. 
  • Analyzes appellate records, case law, and trial evidence; performs e-discovery duties as needed. 

Litigation and Trial Support 

  • Assists AUSAs in preparing for trials by compiling, organizing, indexing, and presenting visual exhibits (e.g., statistical charts, photos). 
  • Flags deficiencies such as missing documents or conflicting statements; requests follow-up investigation or personally investigates issues when necessary. 
  • Prepares case management tools using Case Map, I-Pro (for redactions), and Sanctions (for courtroom presentation). 
  • Produces and provides legal documents, exhibits, and evidence in a timely manner for hearings and trials. 

Administrative and Automation Support 

  • Uses word processing, spreadsheets, and database management software to develop automated solutions for reporting, data visualization, and information retrieval. 
  • Conducts data searches and prepares one-time or recurring reports from established legal databases. 
  • Supports general administrative tasks and monitors maintenance and facility needs at the HCF site. 
  • Maintains regular communication with federal agencies to ensure full cooperation and support for litigation. 

Facility Oversight 

  • Assists Office Manager with overseeing the day-to-day administrative and support functions of the Miramar HCF facility, including handling maintenance issues and facility-related concerns. 


EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred. 
  • Minimum two (2) years of litigation paralegal experience . 
  • At least one (1) year experience with automated litigation support software . 
  • Trial support experience strongly preferred. 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of federal litigation process, legal research principles, and administrative proceedings. 
  • Experience with legal support technology, including: 
  • Westlaw, Lexis, ECF, Scan-It, I-Pro, Case Map, Sanctions. 
  • Skilled in document organization, trial preparation, and handling Sensitive Security Information (SSI). 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and automated litigation tools. 
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
