NATURE OF WORK: Under direct supervision performs professional work of moderate difficulty providing; provides assistance to crime victims and their families involved in adult and juvenile cases; training to volunteer advocates; provides assistance to victims and witnesses of crimes; performs related work as assigned. - Essential Functions

TYPICAL DUTIES: (Illustrative Only) Orients victims, witnesses, and family members to the court process and explains their rights throughout that process; makes referrals to social service agencies and compensation program; provides court accompaniment for victim and witnesses; provides training to volunteer advocates; assists in report preparation; may interview victims, witnesses, and significant individuals.- Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in behavioral science, criminal justice, education, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education; one (1) year of experience in teaching or social service; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to be covered by county insurance.
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Arizona criminal justice system procedures and process;
- Arizona Victims' Rights Statutes or ability to obtain;
- community resources state and county regulations and procedures relating to AHCCCS;
- methods and procedures used in determining eligibility for indigent services;
- interviewing and investigative techniques;
- modern office practices and procedures;
- training techniques;
- human behavior.
Working skill in:- statistical data maintenance and report writing.
Ability to:- interact with and advocate for clients from a variety of demographic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds and circumstances;
- react quickly and calmly in emotional situations;
- listen and respond professionally;
- establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public;
- follow written and verbal instructions;
- read, write and speak English;
- communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is primarily performed under direct supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office or court setting with appropriate climate controls. Requires driving within the county and on occasion outside of the county.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting majority of time; walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met
