The Opportunity
We are looking for a skilled Lien Attorney to join our firm and play a critical role in managing and resolving liens-related matters, ensuring that our clients receive the maximum compensation they deserve.
Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, the Lien Attorney will be responsible for managing and resolving statutory and private healthcare liens and other liens rising from personal injury, medical malpractice, and related cases. This role requires expertise in lien law, strong negotiation skills, and attention to detail to protect the firm’s clients and maximize their recovery. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about client advocacy.
Accountable for
- Oversee and monitor Lien Resolution, including healthcare liens (such as those relating to Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA, hospital liens, private insurance and medical providers) as well as attorneys’ liens.
- Medicare Set Aside: Identifying and managing cases that may require a Medicare Set-Aside (MSA).
- Case Management: Maintain a thorough understanding of liens-related issues in active cases and collaborate with attorneys and staff to ensure timely resolution of liens and compliance with State Bar requirements for timely distribution of undisputed funds.
- Negotiations: Communicate and negotiate with lienholders to resolve outstanding liens, maximizing client recovery.
- Compliance: Stay informed of lien laws, regulations, and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
- Client Communication: Provide updates to clients on the status of their liens and explain how lien resolutions impact their settlements.
- Documentation: Draft correspondence, legal documents, and memoranda related to lien matters and maintain organized records of lien negotiations and settlements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with litigation, settlement, accounting and liens teams to support case resolution strategies.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed and in good standing with the California Bar.
- 2+ years of experience in personal injury or healthcare lien resolution.
- Strong knowledge of lien laws, including Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA, and hospital liens.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload efficiently.
- Proficiency with legal research tools and case management software.
- Experience working in a plaintiff’s law firm is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical billing and insurance processes is preferred.
- Familiarity with structured settlements and subrogation claims is preferred.
Compensation
- $135,000 - $180,000 depending on experience
