Position Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Decedent Estates dockets, i.e., Probate of Will, Heirship Determination and Estate Administration Applications. 
  • Appoint Attorneys Ad Litem to Decedent Estates. Brief case law for Decedent Estates’ Ancillary Matters and conference with the Judge. 
  • Attend continuing legal education courses for probate area content, case law and legislative updates, and Texas Estates Code amendments, to maintain proficiency in citing and applying most current legal authority. 
  • Educate the Court Staff and the Judge on the same. 
  • Assist the Judge during Ancillary, Contested Matters, Trials and at the Staff’s request.
  • Staff Attorney will be provided opportunities for training, both in service and extra departmental continuing legal education. 
  • Staff attorney shall ensure they meet requirements for Texas State Bar Licensure each year.

Requirements

Education and Licensure:

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an American Bar Association accredited college of law. 

  • Licensed by the State Bar of Texas.


Certification and Training:

  • Texas State Bar Guardianship Ad Litem Certificate

Preferences

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as an attorney in the Probate practice area.

  • Hours will be discussed during departmental interview.

Salary: 

  • $89,000.00 - $95,000.00 Annually

  • Depends on Qualifications 

  • Based on 26 pay periods



Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
