The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York's mission is to investigate, prosecute and deter violations of federal statutes, enforce and represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, uphold civil, constitutional and victims' rights, and foster partnerships with other federal, state and local government agencies and community groups.
Duties This Information Technology Specialist provides technical and advisory assistance to support the information management needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO).
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Information Technology Specialist support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, located in Brooklyn, New York, focusing in the areas of customer support; systems/network administration; information systems security; internet support; litigation support services.
Typical work assignments will include:
- Providing customer support services including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and training in response to user requirements.
- Performing testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, maintenance and management of networked systems used for the transmission of information in data, voice and/or video format.
- Ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
- Designing, developing, testing, and implementing internet, intranet, and extranet activities, including technical management of websites.
- Coordinating litigation support services (including trial preparation and presentation) in response to customer needs.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Salary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required basic requirement and specialized experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
Basic Requirement:
You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must possess:
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (2) of the (3) duties listed below:
- Assisting in the installation and/or maintenance of information technology (IT) assignments;
- Providing information technology (IT) information and/or assistance to customers;
- Ensuring application of appropriate security measures.
Successful completion a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields previously identified and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR
A combination of specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least one year of graduate education as described in B, which when combined equals 100% of the requirements. To calculate your percentage of education, first determine the total number of hours that exceed 18 semester hours (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study) then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study). To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. (Only graduate education in excess of the first full year may be used in this calculation). (You must submit transcripts.)

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level.
