Immigration Managing Attorney
The Immigration Managing Attorney at La Raza Centro Legal will manage a staff of 4+ and reports to the Executive Director. The Managing Attorney is not and may not become a union employee covered by any collective bargaining agreement of which LRCL is a party.
The attorney will also represent some clients with immigration cases, focusing on removal defense or affirmative filings, depending on current needs.
The attorney will recruit and manage a team of 4 Immigration attorneys and 1-2 legal assistants, and pro bono attorneys (as needed). The attorney will also carry an individual caseload. The attorney will have discretion to adjust grievances within the Immigration program. The attorney will also have authority on behalf of the employer to hire, transfer, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, reward (includes evaluations, overtime assignments, time off), assign, or discipline employees within the Immigration Law program, or to recommend such actions to the Executive Director.
The attorney will also contribute to community outreach events and presentations, grant reporting, fundraising efforts including grant writing and Gala efforts, volunteer/intern and pro bono attorney recruitment and supervision, and other tasks.
Clinical and Case Work Responsibilities:
· Meet and conduct intakes for walk-in clients.
· Prepare applications for asylum, SIJS and other avenues of relief from deportation. Prepare affirmative filings for applicants.
· Attend immigration clinics and conduct intake screenings.
· Represent some clients at USCIS and asylum office interviews.
· Write motions, briefs, and BIA appellate briefs.
· Ensure that legal work is consistent with agency mission.

Community Education Responsibilities:
· Conduct or coordinate know-your-rights presentations and information sessions. Some sessions will be off-site.
· Develop informational materials on immigration law.
· Represent La Raza Centro Legal at various coalition meetings and with grant stakeholders.
Responsibilities – Immigration Program:
· Organize and attend team meetings.
· Assist with funding reporting requirements.
· Assist with case management systems.
· Assist in coordinating the overflow work of the program with volunteers, pro bono attorneys and externs.
· Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
· Assist with fundraising and grant writing for the agency.
· Represent the agency to the community at meetings, public events, media outreach, and other forums.
Requirements:
· Fluent in Spanish and English desirable.
· J.D. and CA state bar license required.
· Strong research and writing skills.
· Attention to detail.
· Interest in immigration law and passionate about issues affecting immigrants.
· Sensitivity to work with children, survivors of trauma, seniors, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ and other vulnerable populations.
