The Assessment Consultation Team (ACT) in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Human Resources is seeking a highly motivated Assessment Consultant with experience in the areas of human resources, candidate selection, and industrial/organizational psychology. The Assessment Consultant will use analytical skills to develop, validate, and administer innovative pre-employment hiring assessments for the various Divisions/Bureaus within the DOJ.
This position will consult with DOJ hiring managers and stakeholders to provide expertise and assistance on selection processes, practices, and tools and must be able to facilitate conversation and gather information from others in a professional manner. They will develop various forms of selection tools and resources, including, interview materials, application scoring strategies, interactive performance exercises, and online multiple-choice tests. They will perform post-assessment analyses and interpretation of test performance data using Classical Test Theory and other descriptive and inferential statistics.
The Assessment Consultant is expected to be responsible, professional, and self-motivated, and regularly contribute to team efforts to evaluate and improve ACT procedures and processes. Creativity and a willingness to learn new topics and job-related skills are highly desirable! This position will manage a workload where assignments and deadlines might conflict or suddenly change. The Assessment Consultant will work closely with all levels of personnel within the DOJ and will regularly collaborate with their ACT team members, colleagues, supervisors, and other subject-matter experts. They will also provide regular assistance with assignments and tasks that support various DOJ programs and initiatives.
Working Conditions
This position has been designated as eligible for telework and is currently a remote centered position. The position will however require in- person attendance on a recurring basis. The selected candidate would report to DOJ headquarters in Sacramento when required for job functions, in-person meetings, trainings, etc. Expenses related to travel to the office when required are the responsibility of the employee. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time.Please note that all new-to-State employees will be given the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum salary of Range A (whichever is applicable), unless you meet Alternate Range Criteria 069. For current state employees and/or those with reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

- Ability to independently organize, prioritize, and complete complex projects and assignments.
- Ability to reason logically, analyze data, exercise sound judgment, and recommend effective solutions.
- Ability to work with spreadsheets containing personnel and selection-related data.
- Experience with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS, etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to learn new job-related topics, information, and skills.
