   SUMMARY   

The Paralegal at MBL plays a vital role in supporting attorneys and legal professionals in managing complex cases, particularly those involving high-damage exposure such as insurance lawsuits, automobile claims, premises liability, insurance coverage, contract disputes, and construction accidents. This role requires a detail-oriented and organized individual who will assist with all stages of case preparation, from initial filing to trial, and work closely with attorneys to prepare for trials, hearings, and meetings. 

Key responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and discovery requests, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The Paralegal will also manage case files, prepare and file legal documents, assist in trial preparation, and maintain client files. The Paralegal will communicate with clients, witnesses, and court personnel as needed and provide comprehensive assistance with case management. This position will have strong organizational, research, and writing skills, a solid understanding of legal procedures and terminology, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. A proactive, professional, and detail-oriented approach is essential to contribute to the overall efficiency and success of the legal team in handling challenging and high-stakes legal matters. 

   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  

Legal Research and Analysis 
  • Conduct detailed legal research on case law, statutes, regulations, and legal precedents using databases such as LexisNexis 
  • Analyze legal issues and synthesize research findings to provide written summaries and insights for attorneys or judges 
  • Assist in the preparation of legal arguments by reviewing case materials and identifying key issues 
Drafting Legal Documents 
  • Draft and prepare legal documents, including memoranda, motions, briefs, pleadings, and discovery requests 
  • Assist with the creation of reports, legal opinions, and other formal correspondence under the guidance of supervising attorneys 
  • Review and edit legal documents for accuracy, clarity, and proper legal citation 
Case Management and File Organization 
  • Maintain and organize case files, including physical and electronic records, ensuring easy retrieval and compliance with data retention protocols 
  • Track deadlines, court dates, and filings to ensure timely submission of documents and responses, and manage case calendars 
Document Review and Preparation 
  • Review, organize, and summarize client documents, depositions, discovery materials, and other legal documents to assist attorneys in case preparation 
  • Prepare exhibits and evidence for trial, hearings, or mediation 
Court Filings and Documentation 
  • Prepare and file legal documents with courts, ensuring compliance with local, state, or federal rules and deadlines 
  • Track and manage case status updates and court orders 
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of electronic filings and maintaining case records 
Client Interaction and Support 
  • Communicate with clients as directed by attorneys, answering basic inquiries or gathering information for case preparation 
  • Maintain a professional and client-focused approach when handling sensitive information and documentation
Discovery and Evidence Handling 
  • Assist with discovery processes, including preparing interrogatories, requests for production of documents, and requests for admissions 
  • Organize and manage evidence and documentation, ensuring compliance with legal protocols 
Administrative Support 
  • Manage and maintain case files, legal records, and documents in an organized and accessible manner 
  • Coordinate meetings, appointments, and deadlines for attorneys 
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as calendaring, tracking deadlines, and managing correspondence 
Confidentiality and Ethical Compliance 
  • Ensure the protection of client confidentiality and maintain strict adherence to ethical and professional standards 
  • Comply with legal and firm-specific confidentiality policies regarding sensitive case materials and client information 
Collaboration and Team Support 
  • Collaborate with attorneys, law clerks, other paralegals, and legal assistants in case management and legal tasks 
  • Provide support to other legal staff, adapting to shifting priorities and deadlines as required 
  • Assist in preparing for meetings, depositions, and hearings, ensuring all required materials are available and organized 
Technology Use 
  • Utilize legal technology platforms for case management, e-filing, document management, and research purposes 
  • Maintain proficiency in legal research tools, document automation software, and other office technologies 
Continual Learning and Development 
  • Stay updated on changes in the law, legal procedures, and relevant legal technologies 
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance legal knowledge and job performance 
  • Regular and routine scheduled onsite or remote attendance 
  • All other duties as assigned

 EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS  
  • Bachelor's degree in political science, history, criminal justice, or a related field (required) 
  • Associate’s degree in paralegal studies (required) 
  • Professional certification (Paralegal Certification) (required) 
  • Additional professional certifications (NALA, NFPA) (preferred) 
   EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 
  • Previous experience working in a legal internship or clerkship (preferred) 
  • Experience working in an entry-level paralegal position 
  • Experience with legal research and writing 
   ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 
  • Must pass an extensive background check as required by the firm or client
