Eminent Domain Paralegal

POSITION SUMMARY:

Jackson Walker, the largest law firm in Texas, has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for an Eminent Domain Paralegal in our Austin office. The Eminent Domain Paralegal is responsible for providing legal and administrative support to attorneys in all phases of eminent domain and right-of-way matters. This role supports case development, property acquisition processes, and litigation by managing documents, coordinating with stakeholders, and maintaining detailed tracking of parcels and case activity. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters while working independently and collaborating with attorneys, clients, and third parties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Case & Matter Support

  • Assist attorneys in all phases of eminent domain and condemnation matters, including pre-litigation, litigation, and settlement.
  • Draft routine legal documents, including pleadings, notices, correspondence, and discovery materials.
  • Maintain case files and ensure accurate organization of all matter-related documents.
  • Track deadlines, court dates, and key milestones for multiple matters.

Property & Title Coordination

  • Review title commitments, surveys, and property descriptions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in tracking parcels, ownership information, and acquisition status.
  • Coordinate with title companies, surveyors, appraisers, and other third-party vendors.
  • Maintain detailed parcel and project tracking logs.

Litigation & Hearing Support

  • Assist with preparation of discovery requests and responses, including document collection and organization.
  • Prepare hearing and trial materials, including exhibits, witness files, and notebooks.
  • Coordinate logistics for hearings, depositions, and meetings.
  • Support attorneys during hearings and trial preparation as needed.

Client & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Communicate with clients, landowners, and external stakeholders to gather information and provide updates.
  • Assist with preparation of client reports and status updates.
  • Maintain professional and responsive communication with all parties involved in matters.

Research & Documentation

  • Conduct basic legal and property research using available resources.
  • Compile and analyze information related to parcels, ownership, and case activity.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for audit and reporting purposes.

Administrative & General Support

  • Track and record time for all Firm-related tasks.
  • Manage document storage within Firm systems (e.g., iManage).
  • Assist with additional projects and duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required, bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Paralegal certification preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 35 years of relevant paralegal experience required, preferably in eminent domain, real estate, or litigation.
  • Working knowledge of eminent domain, condemnation processes, or real estate transactions preferred.
  • Familiarity with title review, surveys, and property-related documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with document management systems (iManage preferred).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision while collaborating in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

WORK CONDITIONS:

This position operates in a professional office environment with standard equipment. Occasional travel and extended hours may be required to meet business needs.
