About the Role:
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently seeking a talented legal professional for the role of an Assistant General Counsel - Global Program Impact. Reporting to the Senior Counsel – Global Initiatives and Network Engagement, this individual will provide legal support and counsel to Habitat's global projects and network. There will be a focus on activities within the Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter (TCIS) program, covering general corporate matters, including international operations along with contract management and negotiation for professional services and international project collaboration agreements.
This position will be remotely based in the US, Costa Rica or Slovakia.
About Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter (TCIS):
Through the Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter, Habitat for Humanity works in some of the most pivotal yet uncharted intervention points in housing markets piloting new approaches and making a business case where none exists. Through 250+ partnerships – with financial institutions, material manufacturers, retailers, academic and vocational institutes, design firms, media companies and civil society organizations – the Terwilliger Center is working to build more inclusive housing markets that better address the needs of low-income families. Program areas include Housing Finance Systems, Housing Technology and Entrepreneurship and Construction Decisions and Practices.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide Legal Support to TCIS on Contract Management and Negotiation: 50%
- Negotiate and draft service/vendor agreements, sponsorship agreements, grant agreements, and other miscellaneous agreements. Focus will be on professional services and international project collaboration agreements.
- Research and advise on related international structuring matters.
- Develop and review checklists, legal content, templates, and forms.
Legal Counsel & Global Business Support:30%
- Provide legal advice to Area Offices, National Organizations, and headquarters functions on governance, contracts, compliance with policies, and risk/litigation avoidance.
- Counsel business partners on employment, finance, IT, advocacy, regional safety, safeguarding, and international data privacy.
Provide Legal Support to TCIS on Risk Management, Compliance, and other general matters: 20%
- Research legal issues and prepare memoranda and correspondence.
Key Requirements:
- Juris Doctor
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 5 years of legal counsel experience with international corporate and contract matters.
- Proven in-house legal experience within a corporate environment.
- Ability to act as a thought partner and trusted counsel to diverse stakeholders across the organization.
- Global mindset with willingness and ability to support business operations across multiple time zones on a regular basis.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $107,000-$126,000. For work locations in Slovakia, the target hiring range starts at 4,420 euros per month.
