Keating O’Gara Law is seeking to hire an experienced family law legal assistant. The annual salary amount offered to the successful candidate will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and fall within a range of $40,000 to $60,000. Formal and informal social functions are held throughout the year to foster a vibrant and positive workplace culture. This is a full-time in-office position in our Lincoln, Nebraska, office. The standard work week expectation for this role is 37.5 hours, Monday through Friday. Remote work and hybrid work arrangements are not an option for this position. The role requires the ability to critically assess and anticipate our attorney's needs in serving clients and managing workloads. It involves the following job duties, in addition to others that may be assigned to meet business and client needs: • Create and edit legal documents and correspondence by following written or verbal directions. Prior law firm experience is desired but not required. Must have experience working in a professional services office setting and using modern office technology hardware and software tools. Post secondary education (associate degree or higher) is desired but not required.
• Fax, scan, and photocopy documents; maintain efficient and organized files.
• Review/analyze file and document contents to assist the attorney in identifying key information or information gaps.
• Transcribe recorded (dictated) audio files to create legal documents.
• Update and manage attorney calendars.
• Assist with client meetings.
• Assist with court hearings and witness depositions.
• Skill in the use of various computer software programs (Microsoft Office and other applications).
• Proficient typing and keyboarding skills.
• Knowledge of legal terminology, legal forms, documents, practices and procedures.
• Skill in prioritizing work assignments, organization and critical thinking.
• Ability to create documents using correct English spelling, grammar and punctuation; review legal documents to identify inaccuracies or omissions.
• Strong focus on attention to detail in all work and seeing all work through to its logical conclusion.
• Ability to confidently and effectively interact with clients, firm attorneys, and other firm employees in a team environment.
• Ability to confidently and effectively interact with judges, court staff and outside legal representatives.
• Maintaining confidentiality and using discretion and tact.
