Position Summary 
Manage patient accounts involving attorney representation, third-party liability, PIP/Med Pay, bankruptcy, deceased patients, and other legal-related account circumstances. This phone-based position supports account resolution through regular communication with attorneys, insurance representatives, and other appropriate parties, while completing timely follow-up and accurate account documentation. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
Work assigned patient accounts in accordance with established procedures, client requirements, departmental workflows, and applicable regulatory standards. 
Review account history, balances, correspondence, insurance information, attorney information, and supporting documentation to determine the appropriate next action. 
Contact attorneys, insurance representatives, and other appropriate parties by telephone to obtain account status, follow up on outstanding balances, and support account resolution. 
Maintain timely follow-up on attorney-represented, third-party liability, PIP/Med Pay, bankruptcy, deceased-patient, and other assigned legal-related accounts. 
Negotiate settlements with attorneys or insurance representatives within established guidelines and approved authority. 
Coordinate billing statements, medical records, and other documentation requests related to assigned accounts. 
Research and verify bankruptcy information using approved resources and court systems; document accounts according to established workflows and coordinate Proofs of Claim when required. 
Maintain follow-up on bankruptcy accounts through discharge, dismissal, or other case resolution. 
Research and verify date-of-death and available estate information for deceased-patient accounts using approved resources and established procedures. 
Prepare routine correspondence, affidavits, and other account documentation as assigned. 
Maintain complete, accurate, and timely account notes and protect confidential patient and business information. 
Meet established productivity, quality, attendance, and compliance expectations. 
Escalate unusual, complex, or high-risk account situations in accordance with departmental procedures. 
Complete assigned reports and administrative account activities as required. 
Participate in training, coaching, quality review, and other development activities. 
Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope and complexity of the position. 
 
Scope and Decision-Making 
Works within established account procedures, settlement guidelines, client requirements, and departmental workflows. Uses available account information to determine appropriate routine follow-up and resolution activities. Negotiates settlements only within established authority and seeks guidance or escalates accounts when circumstances fall outside defined procedures or approval limits. 
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
Ability to communicate professionally and confidently by telephone with attorneys, insurance representatives, and other external parties. 
Strong customer service, negotiation, and account-resolution skills. 
Ability to review account information and determine appropriate follow-up using established procedures. 
Accurate documentation, organization, prioritization, and time-management skills. 
Professional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality. 
Ability to manage a high volume of telephone and account activity while maintaining quality and productivity expectations. 
Ability to follow established procedures, scripts, workflows, and escalation guidelines. 
Ability to use standard office technology and learn applicable account management, billing, and research systems. 
 
Education and Experience 
High school diploma or GED required. Prior patient accounts, healthcare revenue cycle, collections, insurance, customer service, call center, or related account-resolution experience is preferred but not required when the candidate demonstrates the communication skills and ability to learn the work. Experience communicating with attorneys, insurance representatives, or other professional third parties is preferred.

Consistently meets established productivity and quality standards for assigned accounts. 
Maintains professional and effective telephone communication with attorneys, insurance representatives, and other parties. 
Completes required account follow-up accurately and within established timeframes. 
Documents telephone calls, research, correspondence, settlements, and other account activity completely and accurately. 
Follows established settlement authority, account workflows, client requirements, and escalation procedures. 
Complies with company policies, departmental procedures, privacy standards, and applicable laws and regulations. 
Work Environment and Physical Requirements 
Work is generally performed in an office environment using a computer, telephone, headset, and standard office equipment. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position and perform repetitive computer and keyboard work for extended periods, communicate effectively by telephone, and review detailed account information.
