
Environmental – Legal Risk Management Specialist

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and relationship-building skills with risk management and insurance experience related to the environmental sector. You're a motivated, proactive individual with the ability to step outside your comfort zone to influence and drive meaningful change, regardless of scale.
In this role, you will take ownership of developing, implementing, supporting, and enhancing processes, practices, and systems aimed at improving the Legal Team's overall efficiency, effectiveness, cost management, and performance. Serving as the operational backbone of the Legal Team, this role will also champion cross-functional initiatives to deliver comprehensive legal and compliance support.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide support on legal projects or projects that require legal interpretation and support.
- Review Legal spending and budgeting, and recommend cost savings initiatives.
- Provide support on legal matters with Outside Counsel management.
- Provide process improvements within legal team operations.
- Creating master agreements
- General assistance with M&A due diligence collection, organization, and Advance Pricing Agreements (APA) negotiation
- Train employees in legal and environmental standards.
Legal Governance
- Entity Management - overseeing and maintaining the legal and regulatory compliance of an organization's various entities, such as subsidiaries, branches, or joint ventures.
- Assist the tax department with the management of CT Corp (work with registered agent services, entity management, and corporate compliance solutions for company solutions and services).
Compliance Management:
- Ensure adherence to environmental regulations, including EPA standards and state-specific waste management laws.
- Monitor changes in environmental legislation and update company policies accordingly.
Contract Review and Negotiation:
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with vendors, suppliers, and clients to allocate environmental risks effectively.
- Include indemnity clauses and warranties to protect the company from liabilities.
Insurance and Vendor Management:
- Manage insurance applications, supporting documentation, and vendor relationships.
- Coordinate risk management programs and ensure proper coverage for environmental liabilities.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work with internal teams, such as operations and HR, to align risk management strategies with organizational goals.
- Communicate with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and legal counsel.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Law, Risk Management, or a related field.
Experience:
3 years of experience in legal risk management, compliance, insurance, or environmental law.
Familiarity with environmental regulations and waste management practices.
Skills:
- Must have basic knowledge of legal and compliance operations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in legal research and documentation.
- Technical: Proficient in MS Suite and environmental systems used to manage compliance, risk, and legal obligations related to environmental regulations, i.e., Legal Files, Avetta, ISN, Adobe Sign
Certifications (Optional):
- Certifications in environmental law or risk management, such as Environmental Risk Management Certification (ERM).
- Licensed Notary Public (Preferred)
- $80,000 - $85,000/year
