The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network (https://www.czbiohub.org/) is a group of nonprofit research institutes that bring together scientists, engineers, and physicians with the goal of pursuing grand scientific challenges on 10- to 15-year time horizons. The Opportunity

We are currently looking for a full-time Intellectual Property Paralegal to assist the Chief Legal Officer and the IP Counsel with all of CZ Biohub’s IP responsibilities. This position will be responsible for organizing and maintaining patent and license databases, material transfer agreements and related policies and procedures.  Communication with scientists is a core function of this position.  The position requires flexibility to work 60% out of the San Francisco office with a transition to the Redwood City office in two years.

What You'll Do

• Coordinate legal processes, including document preparation, document management, internal and external communications, tracking and follow-up, signatures, for various legal functions such as invention disclosures, patents, assignments, licenses, and material transfer agreements
• Organize and implement policies and procedures for CZ Biohub’s intellectual property, including its patent and trademark portfolios
• Organize, schedule, and participate in necessary internal meetings in support of the IP portfolio
• Coordinate with inside and outside stakeholders to provide needed information and feedback on filings in a timely and efficient manner, including scientists, outside IP counsel, and university technology transfer partners
•  Establish and maintain appropriate systems to track invention disclosures, patents, license milestone dates and effectively communicate to team and employees, including accounting department
• Remain abreast of new Patent Office Rules and filing procedures, alert the IP Team of new procedures and rules relating to patent or trademark practice
• Create and maintain reports to support operational activities
• Develop and conduct IP-related trainings, resources and legal roadshows

What You'll Bring 

Essential –

• B.A or B.S degree preferably in business, finance, science or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of related experience as a patent or IP paralegal in a corporate IP department or law firm
• MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Must exhibit strong organizational skills, acute attention to detail and excellent oral and written communication skills

Nice to have - 

• Paralegal certification
• Experience in biotech and/or pharma

Compensation 

The San Francisco, CA base pay range for this role is $106,000.00 - $146,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
