
ASSISTANT ATTORNEY – CIVIL LITIGATION AND LABOR LAW ATTORNEY (FULL-TIME)

SALARY: $100,000 - $125,000

POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a full-time Assistant Attorney, County Counsel to join the Mercer County legal team in Mercer County, NJ. The qualified Assistant County Counsel will be an experienced civil litigation attorney with expertise in Title 59, civil rights, and employment and labor law. The successful candidate will represent the County in legal proceedings, provide counsel to departments, and play a key role in collective bargaining and public sector compliance.
This government attorney position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to public service while supporting the legal framework of Mercer County operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ASSISTANT COUNTY COUNSEL:
- The Assistant County Counsel will represent the County in civil litigation and labor-related cases.
- The Assistant County Counsel will provide legal counsel to County departments on employment law and workplace compliance.
- The Assistant County Counsel will participate in collective bargaining negotiations and labor discussions.
- The Assistant County Counsel will advise on matters involving the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and state employment statutes.
- The Assistant County Counsel will draft legal documents, formal legal opinions, and official correspondence.
- The Assistant County Counsel will collaborate with internal departments to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE ASSISTANT COUNTY COUNSEL:
- The Assistant County Counsel must have at least 5 years of experience in state and federal civil litigation, including Title 59 and civil rights law.
- The Assistant County Counsel must be admitted to the New Jersey Bar and be in good standing.
- The Assistant County Counsel should have experience with labor and employment law matters.
- The Assistant County Counsel should have knowledge of the New Jersey Civil Service system and collective bargaining negotiations (preferred).
