
SALARY GRADE: Grade 12
The Office of the Superior Court, Prosecutorial District 38, seeks a qualified Court Assistant/Jury Coordinator to issue approximately 20,000 summonses for jury service per year. This position is fast-paced with a heavy workload and continuous interaction with jurors.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Check in, orient, and impanel jurors.
- Respond to inquiries by phone and in person.
- Process undeliverable summons and requests for excusal or deferral.
- Confirm attendance and execute payment processes.
- Monitor failures to appear and initiate show case hearings when necessary.
- Assist Gaston County Information Services and Technology as it becomes available to streamline jury process.
- Ensure the overall comfort, satisfaction, and efficient use of jurors.
- Attend meetings as needed; and other general administrative responsibilities as required.
- $39,511 - $57,438/year
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Knowledge of: court rules and procedures; general office procedures; grammar and punctuation; word processing; commonly used rules, procedures, or methods, to perform assignments.
Skills in: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to: screen communications and based on content, handle independently or route to proper destination; apply grammar and punctuation rules; type with accuracy and speed; spell accurately; use judgment in organizing and establishing document format; give basic information and instructions regarding programs or office based on inquires; operate office equipment such as copier, calculator, fax machine, computer, and telephones.
Graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary or paralegal; or an Associate Degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
