Job Title: General Counsel


Start Date: Immediately


Salary Range: $170,000-$250,000/annually DOE


Position Overview: The General Counsel will serve as the chief legal officer for the company, providing strategic legal advice and counsel to the executive leadership team and all departments. This role will be responsible for managing all legal matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and protecting the company's legal interests. The General Counsel will proactively identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, while also providing guidance on business transactions, intellectual property, litigation, and corporate governance.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor to the CEO, executive team on a wide range of legal issues.
  • Develop and implement the company's legal strategy and policies.
  • Manage and oversee all legal matters, including contracts, intellectual property, litigation, regulatory compliance, employment law, and real estate.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, customer agreements, partnership agreements, and licensing agreements.
  • Anticipate and identify legal risks and develop proactive strategies and solutions to mitigate them.
  • Manage and oversee any litigation or legal disputes, work with external counsel when necessary, and actively pursue outstanding payments through litigation.
  • Ensure the company's compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Provide legal advice and support on mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.
  • Develop and deliver legal training to employees on relevant legal topics.
  • Manage and oversee the work of any legal staff and external legal counsel.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations that may affect the company.
  • Provide legal support to the Human Resources department on employment-related matters.
  • Protect the company's intellectual property rights, including trademarks, patents, and copyrights.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional legal acumen and analytical skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and concisely to non-legal audiences.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic legal advice and contribute to business decision-making.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity and ethical standards.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in legal research and technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar of at least one state (preferably Missouri or eligible for counsel registration in Missouri).
  • A minimum of 3-7 years of relevant legal experience, with a significant portion of that experience within a corporate legal department or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate law, contract law, litigation management, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property.
  • Experience working with executive leadership

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Pass the initial drug test and participate in the random drug test program.
  • Primarily indoors, office environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time, working at a computer.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
