Job Description
Responsibilities:
Assist the General Counsel and coordinate with the Chief Information Security Officer in developing and implementing legal strategies to facilitate key commercial, corporate, intellectual property, cybersecurity, privacy, analytics and technology objectives, ensuring those objectives are in compliance with best practices and applicable research and healthcare law and regulations. Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial, technology, privacy and other contracts and agreements, supporting supply chain, finance and operations including strategic collaborations, innovation and emerging technologies. Support the Compliance Department, the CISO and other leaders on all privacy initiatives including Business Associate and Data Use Agreements, as well as investigations, incident responses and providing legal advice on related policies, and privacy and security issues on an ad hoc basis. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations applicable to the healthcare industry. Provide legal advice and guidance on various legal issues including but not limited to risks associated with data use, security, data privacy, healthcare law, corporate law and regulatory compliance.
Required Skills:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and codes pertaining to the business operations, data privacy and security, and the healthcare industry.
- Proficient in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts and other legal documents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to be persuasive with other leaders across teams, positively influencing and supporting the mission of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- High degree of client service, professional ethics, and integrity.
Preferred Skills:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department, with a focus on commercial, technology, privacy, cybersecurity and healthcare law.
- Admission to the SC bar.
- Experience in a healthcare provider setting.
- Familiarity with the business of healthcare and its operations, including HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, the Interoperability Rules, Medicare/Medicaid regulations, and other healthcare-related compliance issues.
The Associate Counsel will report directly to the General Counsel. This is a full-time position with competitive salary and benefits.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Requirements: Juris Doctorate from accredited school of law; License to practice law in state of South Carolina 5 years of In-house counsel experience in healthcare.
