Realty Income is looking to hire a Paralegal to join our Litigation and Risk Management legal team. In this role, you will work with, assist, and support the SVP, Asst. General Counsel, Litigation, Risk, and Commercial and other attorneys in providing timely and quality support for litigation and risk management associated with the Company’s real estate property portfolio. In addition, you will work on general risk assessment, management and related compliance needs of the Company, including assistance and support on a broad range of litigation, insurance and dispute-resolution matters.

What you will be working on:

Litigation/Claim Matters:

  • Receive and review lawsuits, pre-litigation letters, and claims. 
  • Analyze leases, contracts, and related documents to determine liability and course of action.
  • Perform research to identify issues and relevant matters.
  • Prepare and deliver tender letters to tenants, third parties, Company’s insurance broker or appropriate carrier.
  • Prepare and deliver tenant default notices to tenants and third parties.
  • Serve as point of contact for outside counsel and tenants throughout the pendency of litigation and claim matters.
  • Calendar response dates.
  • Ensure Company’s interests are protected and accurately represented.
  • Assist outside counsel with preparation of answers to complaints, discovery responses, corporate disclosures, settlement agreements, and releases.
  • Track and monitor active matters through conclusion.
  • Prepare reports as needed.

Mechanics (and other) Lien Matters:

  • Serve as point of contact for, receive, and review mechanic’s (and other) lien matters.
  • Analyze leases, contracts, and related documents to determine course of action.
  • Prepare and deliver Failure to Comply letters to tenants or third parties.
  • Calendar response dates.
  • Monitor active liens through removal or discharge.

Requests for Financial Documents:

  • Receive and review Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and other requests or Subpoenas for financial or other documents.
  • Request a search of financial documents with appropriate institutions.
  • Analyze leases, contracts, and related documents to determine course of action.
  • Respond, as appropriate, to requesting party.

Document Retention, Permanent Record Filing, Sharepoint, and Other Department Support:

  • Assist Attorneys and paralegals with corporate records retention as needed.
  • Comply with document retention policy and procedure and conduct quality control of active files for input into the document management system.
  • Assist Attorneys with on-going document retention, including electronic filing of new and on-going matters.
  • Assist with department projects as needed and performs other duties as assigned.

What you need to be successful:

  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA approved school (or otherwise meet the requirements of AB1761)
  • We expect at least two years of relevant and on-point legal experience.
  • Combination of education, training, experience, skills and other characteristics that would provide the requisite knowledge and abilities in support of the essential job functions.
  • Appointment as a California Notary Public (may be obtained after employment).

This hybrid position is based in our San Diego (Del Mar area) headquarters. Tuesday - Thursday are in-office for collaboration, with the opportunity to work remotely on Monday and Friday.  

The hourly pay range for this role is $32.66 - $39.00 - $46.32

An annual pay rate and total compensation package is generally determined by the candidate's experience, knowledge, education, skills, performance, and abilities, as well as internal equity, company performance, and alignment with market data.
