Fidelity Security Life Insurance Company, and its affiliates (“FSL”), provide insurance and insurance related services to clients, corporations, employers and individuals. These services include providing benefits through innovative life and health insurance plans, financial services, and customized insurance products for niche markets.

 

Position Summary

The Legal Analyst is responsible for supporting the Legal Department, under the direction of licensed attorneys, to address various sensitive legal and regulatory matters involving insurance products, corporate issues and agent and agency issues. This includes research, independent investigations, file and document reviews, and preparation of responses to various regulatory authorities.

Expectations

  • Collects documents and records and maintains in legal files, databases for attorneys’ use
  • Assists attorneys in researching legal questions referred to the legal department by the claims and administrative departments and outside administrators
  • Assists in the review and preparation of responses to Department of Insurance Complaints and other inquiries
  • Assists with agency and marketing issues when there is a complaint or potential legal matter, which involves some legal and compliance analysis
  • Assists in review of documents and records involving policy assignments, naming or changing beneficiaries, inter vivos and testamentary trust agreements, and assists attorney in providing direction to various departments on such matters.
  • Assists in resolving questions regarding the effect of statutory and regulatory enactments upon the provisions of policy forms and certificates relative to potential legal referrals
  • Assists attorney in handling discovery associate with any lawsuit or potential legal matter;
  • Assists in any legal research, including statutory or regulatory directives–
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Competencies

  • Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in software applications, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Desktop Publishing – managing databases
  • Superior communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Must be detail oriented and a self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Work well under pressure of time deadlines

Requisites

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in insurance, legal department, or law firm preferred but not required
